About Us

SEW Hut was opened for business in 1982 by Harriet E. McLaughlin, a gracious store owner who was always kept a pot of coffee brewing and was more than happy to share her sewing knowledge with all who wished to learn. Today, Harriet's daughter, Ingrid, carries on her mother's tradition of down-home service. She strives to maintain a welcoming and supportive store environment where sewing enthusiasts of all skill levels feel right at home, whether they're shopping, socializing, or learning.

In addition to stocking a diverse selection of high quality sewing merchandise (including fabrics, notions, batting materials, patterns, specialty threads, and embroidery supplies), Ingrid and her friendly, knowledgeable employees also specialize in BERNINA  sales, service, and training. A wide variety of classes are offered at the store (ranging from basic sewing and quilting to embroidery), with a focus on promoting the sewing capacity and confidence of SEW Hut customers so they can get the most value from their sewing machine purchase and enjoy making their favorite projects.

Sew Hut has been serving the San Diego sewing community for over 41 years as the area's premier sewing specialists. We're known as the place where creative energy radiates throughout the store, inviting stitchers of all skill levels to expand their imagination, improve their skills, share ideas, and enjoy the camaraderie of fellow sewing enthusiasts!
